Today I have done two podcasts:
Podcast 10: With Hilary Pearson who is a barrister and has practised as an attorney in Texas, most recently, after converting to become a solicitor, as a partner with Bird & Bird in the Intellectual Property group.
I talk with Hilary about the qualities needed to get into a top law firm and what practice is like in City and Commercial Practice.
Podcast 10: Hilary Pearson on practice as a City solicitor
EXAMINATION REVISION AND TECHNIQUES
Podcast 11: With Martin, at Legal Scribbles. I talk with Martin about revising for examinations, what students should do in the exam hall and exam technique. We also give some general insights into what the examiners are looking for.
Podcast 11: Legal Scribbles on preparing for exams and technique

Fantastic advice from Legal Scribbles.
A must for all law students.
Nice one Charon and Martin.
Useful stuff, thank you
I wonder if Charon would be able to assist with a bit of a career quandary I’m currently experiencing? It is simply this:
I’m approaching the end of the law conversion course and have a place all set on the BVC starting in Autumn. The deadline for olpas and quite a few non-olpas Chambers is looming ever closer. So are exams. I have pretty good qualifications so far, have recently been awarded a BVC scholarship from my Inn, but I have so far yet to undertake a mini-pupillage (have some lined up over the summer and hope to line up some more). I have spent some extended periods of time working in solicitors’ firms, have participated in internal mooting competitions, and try to visit court when I can in order to experience some advocacy in practice, but I’m anxious that I will be at a severe disadvantage in making applications this summer – I fear I will stand out for all the wrong reasons!
So I suppose the matter on which I am seeking advice is whether or not you would consider it ill-advised to make a series of – in all probability – unsuccessful applications this time around, or wait a bit and apply later in Autumn or April 2008. Do you think an unsuccessful application now would be detrimental to any subsequent applications? Should I bite the bullet and give it a go anyway?
Anyway. That’ll be enough questions to be going on with, I think! It seems you’ve been promoted to Charon QC, Agony Uncle
