The dogs are going to the country….
Paxo: Charon… you said on GMTV news this morning that the dogs are going to the country…. didn’t you really mean to say the country is going to the dogs?
Charon: No… I meant what I said. The dogs are going to the country…
Paxo: Aaaand…. what did you mean by that?
Charon: This country is beginning to lose the place. We have Police and their frontline stormtroopers, the Police Community Support Officers, stopping people taking photographs in public places, we have judges telling government ministers to stop pandering to the Saudis, we have a load of daytime television viewers ‘kidnapping’ their own child to make beer money and waste yet more police time, we have a load of dodgy chinese athletes dressed up in shellsuits pushing pro-Tibet protesters and our police out of the way and we seem to be appeasing China, one of the most repressive and ultimately destructive regimes in the world….. and we can’t even do anything sensible with a bit of regime change in Zimbabwe. Do you want me to go on?… Oh… and government ministers can’t even treat our armed forces properly.
Paxo: Charon… you are on record as being a leftie…. have you crossed the floor?
Charon: No… and, in any event, the present Labour Party hasn’t got much to do with left of centre views these days anyway…. but I do wonder if people in this country are more interested in a dog who can walk backwards on television’s “Britain’s got Talent” - hence my reference to ‘dogs are going to the country’ - or the gathering chaos and erosion of liberty in this country being systematically engineered by a tired and morally moribund government. That does not, of course, predicate or assume that vaguely sensible politicians or elected parliamentary carpetbaggers of a different persuasion will do any better.
Paxo: Are you going to back Boris?
Charon: You know… Mr Paxman… I may just do that…. who was it who said something about an electorate deserving their politicians? Fancy a glass of Rioja?…. I didn’t have time to finish the bottle in your hospitality room before I came on.
Paxo: A kind offer, Charon. I’ll pass this time. Good evening to you.
Charon: Indeed…. I’ll just nip back and finish it…. waste not, want not…. get some value for my TV licence fee.
Paxo: Please do. Goodnight.

Excellent… pretty much sums it up.
The profession of most of the people who have done this is . . . . . ?
I’m thinking for example of such luminaries within the Gvnt as T Blair etc etc

At least your performance on Newsnight is creditable whereas both times Guido appeared on there he made a dog’s arse of himself…
Hi Bob… Yes… There are quite a few lawyers in Parliament… perhaps the BVC and LPC should have a new module “Governing the people of Britain” ?
Jailhouselawyer: I am going to be on the ‘X Factor” over the smmer at this rate - singing “I did it my way”…. or I may choose an adaptation of the Rod Stewart song…. “I am drinking… I am drinking…..”
At least a shaggy dog is preferable to a pigeon hating newt lover.
James…. you might have something there!
I like Boris - a good writer and you have to laugh…. he is an entertaining politician.
Hmmm… is Paxo ( stuffing?) REALLY a good accompaniment to a decent bottle of Rioja?
( speaks she, presently attempting to cook Drunk Chicken for the Minx Clan…..)
this is appalling - i can’t believe i missed a dog walking backwards. it’s like ‘that’s life’ never left us.
(for all you younguns - no that isn’t a typo for ‘this life’ - duhhhhh!)
next mayor of london unable to dress himself, shock. the last time i saw something with the innate judgement and common sense of boris, it was swimming round a little glass bowl. but if that’s how you like yer tories, so be it… medium rare for me a la st lawrence.
“perhaps the BVC and LPC should have a new module “Governing the people of Britain” ?”
Perhaps they should actually be prosecuted for all the laws they flout, their endemic corruption and treason?
Or maybe not, perhaps because the English judicial system resembes the Scottish as described on SACL.
Fnusnuank: Not quite sure what you are getting at?
That the legal system in England seems corrupt and perverted and willingly so.
The law is your profession, doesn’t it bother you that this Gvnt has broken more laws than all previous Gvnts combined?
What have the judiciary done to protect liberty and the rule of law in England the last 10 years, it would appear the answer is not a lot.
The Judiciary is rather active at the moment in protecting civil liberties.
The government is being called to account on quite a number of issues
Charon, I love you! You always bring a ray of sunshine to my day!
extension of judicial review into areas previously thought utterly sacrosanct - defence and foreign policy being the two most recent and dramatic.
yes i think the much-derided judiciary are playinga fairly straight bat on civil liberties.
alas, they are curiously silent on the perambulations of canines. the day will come, though.
Simply wondered.
Based on what Charon said I went to The Bar Council website where I read most of Sir Sydney Kentridge QC’s speech (The only one there) where he said that the right to a fair trial had been lost (I paraphrase as it’s long) vis a vis The Extradition treaty with the US, The EU arrest warrant and Control Orders.
As for Foreign policy, does the bar now wish English Law to apply to the rest of the world?
What is the utility of the HR act to soldiers? Frankly that seems perverse and stupid, they are paid to ‘die for their country’ (As I once was).
So I see nothing to contradict what I said earlier but please point out anything I may not be aware of that is being done to preserve long fought for liberties(excepting such HR victories like allowing pirates to claim asylum).
