Research skills lie at the root of all legal work, whether in academe or practice, so we are going to look at the skills needed and resources available to law students and lawyers in the modern era. We may even have time to look at the value of legal blogging and social media for younger lawyers and not so young lawyers.

Interesting discussion. Information that can now be a few clicks of a mouse away used to take ages to find. Many was the time I did a round trip of 25 miles to find an article or a law report !! Those “case books” were a God send.
Even today, very few public libraries carry any significant amount of legal materials and libraries are getting fewer. This makes the internet so important as a source of information. I find it good that people are blogging in a generally non-competitive manner and sharing their viewpoints. All the different styles are also one of the attractions.

Research skills are crucial – and knowing one’s way around the printed reports is still as important as knowing how to search an electronic database.
