As Tony Blair leaves office and Brown is called to the Palace to be invited to form a government, Quentin Davies MP defects to the Labour Party after writing an excoriating letter to David Cameron – the text of which is a good read.
Here is a taster: “Under your leadership the Conservative party appears to me to have ceased collectively to believe in anything, or to stand for anything. It has no bedrock. It exists on shifting sands. A sense of mission has been replaced by a PR agenda.”
Legal Week notes the departure of Lord Goldsmith and speculates on whether Lord Falconer will follow: Story
A return to the Bar for both men would, in the light of their experience gained in government, be fairly well received one would imagine.
Is it me or has Gordon Brown become less Scottish and more greasy?
In Corporate Blawg’s view, a leopard that can change his spots is less convincing than a Scottish prime minister.
So Quentin Davies who apparently sets great store by integrity, policy and leadership joins the Labour Party? :). He is having a laugh. He clearly hopes to be one of the many talents warming his ample posterior on the front bench chez Brown.
Hi Charon,
Thanks for the link to your page! 🙂
Minx.
I am amazed that here in Oceania the Proles continue to cling to the belief in the existence of two parties and that it is possible to cross from one to the other. Mr Davies has simply crossed from the ‘outer’ party to the ‘inner’ party as part of his career development. The power that resides in the office of the leader is total and the coronation of a new leader combined with the public perception of a promised ‘change’ in the choco-ration has resulted in the effect of a general election without the inconvenient necessity of having to contest one. The leader will simply announce his changes to the grateful and expectant Proles and then go to the country to seek legitimacy for his decrees to ensure that the inner party does not become the outer party.

Freedom is slavery
Ignorance is strength
Our Quentin is going to be busy next Monday. According to the Parliamentary Diary he is going to seek leave to introduce a Bill to make make pre-nuptial agreements enforceable in English Law which will probably upset a lot of lawyers doing very nicely thank you out of ‘big money’ cases in ancillary relief. Not sure what would motivate Quentin to introduce such a Bill but given he was married in 1983 either of his two sons might be able to shed some light on it!
