Home Secretary, Alan Johnson, announced today that he found Professor Nutt’s advice inconvenient and not consistent with policy… or so it would seem.
The Guardian reports rather more precisely:
“Professor David Nutt, the Government’s chief drug adviser, was sacked today after claiming ecstasy and LSD were less dangerous than alcohol, Home Office sources said”
Ah well…. The Curse of The Home Office appears to have another victim.
Professor versus postman prat.
Could be down to “Question Time” of course. Had Ms Smith not been so heartily mocked over the relationship between the government and its adviser, maybe this would have sneaked under the radar.
First the apparent threat to Nick Griffin’s position in the BNP and now this? “Question Time” is dangerous!
Another example of ‘weapons of mass destruction’ expediency.
Why are people who tell the truth generally called David?
Ps. Which doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone called David tells the truth of course
Indeed not! 🙂 Although.. David Kelly did, I assume…….. another sad episode
*Sigh*, they never said this governance stuff would be E-asy, did they? I think one has to be a real Dope to go into politics these days!
Thanks for keeping us up to Speed with the goings-on at the Cannabis – erm, sorry, Cabinet! 😀
Incredible. I thought the note was one of Charonqc gags born of Rioja until I followed your link. Not only incredible but pathetic.
This drugs business always brings to my mind the Rat Park experiment. The way that the research was initially ignored (so much for the Daubert criteria) and the corollary of the results.
In the 1970s one of the chemistry profs at a reputable University declared to his colleagues that he didn’t believe that there was such a thing as heroin addiction. He ordered sufficient for his ‘chemical research‘ and using this he gave himself a dose every evening. After a month of doing this he … simply … stopped.
For an understanding of this work I would refer interested readers to the rat park experiments.

BTW I love your blog!
But at least the government are showing they are TOUGH on drugs, because drugs are BAD (well accept for those ones we licence of course – oh, no wait, they’re bad too, but they’re good bad.
I think the problem here was that one of the parties was checking out comparetheskunk.com whilst the other was looking at comparethedailymaileditorials.com
I always liked the David and Goliath story, so seems fitting that all these whistle blowers are called David.
Superb site! i’ll come back for sure, and also i’ll take the feeds for future read!
