Rioja has done well for me… in fact, most reds have done me a bit of good and I am pleased to report that Corney & Barrow are going to be sponsoring the blawg for a while – in the sense that they will provide winners of my caption competitions with the odd bottle of red or white. I rather liked the idea of Corney & Barrow doing this – so I rang up their marketing team, spoke to a delightful woman who came back to me very quickly with a ‘Yes.’ If you like wine and fancy buying a few bottles from Corney & Barrow, they have a wide and interesting selection – and… you won’t find their wines at your local supermarket. I used to go to their shop in Notting Hill when I lived there in in 2000/01 – always given good advice – always had good wine available.
Their website is well laid out and informative. They even have wine Bars in the City (Fleet Street denizens may like a quick trip to 3 Fleet Place
I am actually delighted that they want to provide the odd bottle for our occasional competitions and it is entirely in keeping with the ethos of this blawg that wine should be a prize.
Talking of England: They won a rugby match and a cricket match. This – despite my Scots ancestry – is good news!
Update: I have just had a good look at the Corney & Barrow info on Bars… and I find that they have a very innovative service. It is possible to buy drinks vouchers by text and send a wine / drinks voucher to a friend to their mobile phone. I rather liked that! : Have a look
Nice website. Just seen the price list for Rioja by the case and by the bottle!!!
Tesco do a nice line of Stella Artois!
James…. I can tell you that Rioja at The Bollo is 16.95 a bottle for a bottle which probably retails at £5! …. multiply 16.95 by 12
Prices at C&B are pretty good…compared to supermarkets….and it is entirely in keeping with my blawg that wine is a prize… Oui / Non ?
Blimey. Nice work if you can get it. Do you Jack Daniels would sponsor me ?
CharonQC: I have drunk Rioja as promised. And it is my turn to scribble drunkenly on your blog.
On Saturday I sat in the pub panicking when Scotland got ahead and I left before our glorious victory (thank you Mr Wilkinson). I was terribly depressed until I saw the news later.
Heavens, all it takes is for the English cricket team not to f**k up: ha ha ha, oh well, some things are unlikely while others are impossible.
On a side note: I do hope Ruthie doesn’t read this or I’ll get into terrible trouble for being drunk: she is a tyrant.
Ah. Geeklawyer. Good of you to drop in – always appreciated. As I respond, New Zealand need 43 runs to beat England…. a run rate of over 10 runs per over for the overs left. Can England snatch defeat from the jaws of Vistory. It has happened before!
@geeklawyer : I just wonder if the comments on your blog have blown up. I couldn’t leave my witty bon mots. Apologies to charonqc for using his blog as a message board.
The blawgosphere…or, at least this part of it, is pleased to be a ‘postbox’ (I was going to use the french equivalent – but, at the very last moment, I realised that I live in Angleterre (Londre) and as I cannot speak French particularly well (or in a way which french people would understand)… and, was concerned that I could not spell ‘poste restante’ correctly – I felt that it was more apppropriate to ‘fess up’ and do it in English and call it ‘postbox’ Mind you… you will not need a ‘francobollo’ on this blawg.
One of the things I like about the internet is the ease with which people may / can / do communicate with each other…and, occasionally, they live happily ever after
Nice one Charon. It takes a certain style to get sponsorship from a wine merchant…
To Geeklawyer: too late. I have read your post and will be extracting suitable punishment in due course.
Yes.. Ruthie… delighted by this. The Rioja I am enjoying tonight is not a prize. I am ethical… I do not drink prizes…. nor am I tempted, as other bloggers may be, to adopt a ‘nom de plume’ and win my own caption competition.
I have sent you an email….
There has been a denial of service attack in the last 24 hours. A lot of servers are suffering. Hence geeklawyers problem?
