And this from @suzannemoore197 which I enjoyed reading on the student protests… it had a touch of compassion and common sense about it. It may not appeal to some Daily Mail readers and….I quite the idea of looking at realities and facts…. how many of the 50,000 students were violent?… not that many..and were all those who were violent, students?
Stick-wielding Leftie yobs? Not the lovely boys I met at the pub
Are our students taught how to demonstrate properly? Do they understand what a riot is? Do they know the historical context of this British tradition?
I do hope so – and, indeed, if they are ALL doing media studies they will find that every cliche in the book has been mindlessly lobbed at them.
What happened on Wednesday has been spoken of breathlessly as both the beginning of the revolution and the collapse of Western civilisation.
Alas it is a truth that not all German troops were Nazis… The few must be contained – lest they tar with the brush – as has happened…
Steelrain – Indeed… and I loved the irony of Bullingdon Boys (Cameron, Osborne, Boris et al) complaining about student property damage.
Oh please don’t direct me to the DM website. Every time I read it I get so annoyed that I end up writing several 1000 character essays about its anti-Europe, pro-hanging and other prejudices and it takes up so much time. I wish I’d saved them all because by now I’ve probably reached the word limit for the EU law dissertation which I’m supposed to be writing 🙂
I remember 80s demos in London from my achingly trendy left wing university (when an immature student). A good chance for a reasonable amount of protesting and a reasonable amount of shopping. Then we all graduated and got jobs. “Oh what fun we had, but did it really turn us bad?”;-)
Clogexpat – Haha! Yes… normally…. I enjoy Suzanne Moore’s quirky tweets and articles.. not the usual DM stuff!
The majority of protesting students may not be terrorists or thugs, a la the Daily Mail, but they’re all pretty thick.
I wonder how many have actually read the government’s proposals, which seem very fair:
