Cable attacks City ‘spivs and gamblers’
Independent: Business Secretary Vince Cable launched a searing attack today on the City “spivs and gamblers” who crippled the British economy.
In a rousing speech to round off the first Liberal Democrat conference since they entered coalition, Mr Cable condemned the “outrageous” scale of bank bonuses after the credit crunch.
But he also attempted to calm business concerns over his damning critique of capitalist excess and threats to legislate against big payouts, insisting he was not seeking “retribution”.
Nice to see a bit of completely meaningless bollocks at the Lib-Dem conference… just like old times.
With regret… I have had to pull out of The Commonwealth Games in India – a bar I was going to spend my time at for the duration of the games has just collapsed…..
Playing to the crowd and populist rabble rousing by Vince , the predictor of doom, Cable.
Of course unfettered capitalism tends to monopoly; Adam Smith could have told him that. That’s what politicians and regulators are for – to make sure it doesn’t happen, and that we balance the undoubted wealth-creating potential of capitalism with social justice.
Retribution is an interesting word to use. It’s like saying you are not after revenge yet leaving the lingering impression that you are in reality.
Just tell us what this all means in terms of policies Vince.
As for the Labour Party leadership competition, I doubt that the majority of the population even realise it’s about to be decide. For most people, this is a bit like Ant and Dec. They can’t really tell you which one’s which out of the four middle class male Oxbridge educated ex-SPADs on show. Given the failure of any of them to be an obvious front runner, Labour either have several equally excellent and inspirational leaders or none at all.
